Retinol is one of the most studied ingredients for the look of fine lines and uneven texture. This 0.5% strength is the middle step in The Ordinary’s retinol range.
If you are new to retinol, start with Retinol 0.2% in Squalane first.

Who it suits
Skin that is already used to retinol. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
How to use
- Use in the evening on clean, dry skin.
- Apply a few drops, avoiding the eyes.
- Start a few nights a week and build up.
- Wear sunscreen every morning.
Good to know: Some dryness, flaking or tingling in the first weeks is common. Do not use on the same night as exfoliating acids, pure vitamin C or copper peptides. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
